Managing director of The Stadium Consultancy, Ben Veenbrink, visited Indonesia as part of FIFA’s expert delegation. The Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI) and FIFA are collaborating to improve stadium infrastructure, safety and security standards across Indonesia.
The visit is part of FIFA’s Memorandum of Understanding with the PSSI. This memorandum emphasized stadium safety and security as key pillars for the transformation of Indonesian football. The Stadium Consultancy joined FIFA to deliver its specialized knowledge and expertise on football stadiums and infrastructure. The key focus of the visit were stadium ingress and egress, the evacuation route and spectator circulation flow.
This in the light of the tragic events of October 1st 2022, when violent events at a football match in Kanjuruhan Stadium resulted in at least 132 fatalities, 96 seriously injured and 484 with moderate and minor injuries. As such, the safety and security of eight stadiums across the archipelago were evaluated, respectively in North Sumatra, West Java, East Java and East Kalimantan.
Additionally, the delegation visited the new National Training Center (NTC) which will host the elite youth and senior teams of Indonesia to inspect the progress of the construction. The NTC is located in Nusantra Capital City and the inauguration of the center is expected to take place in August 2024.
