on 05/03/2021

Dutch Premier League club FC Twente have signed a letter of intent with Sportaal and the municipality of Enschede to return to Sports Campus Diekman. The coming years they aim to develop a new training ground for the first team and the women’s teams on the location of their former stadium.

Before moving to their current Grolsch Veste stadium in 1998, FC Twente played at the Diekman Stadium, in the heart of the city of Enschede. In 2001, their new training ground and youth academy moved the Hengelo. Now the club has the intention to move back to Sports Campus Diekman, while the new combined youth academy with fellow Premier League club Heracles Almelo will be based outside of Enschede.

Together with Sportaal, The Stadium Consultancy have recently developed the new masterplan for Sports Campus Diekman. The masterplan includes facilities for recreational sports, talent programmes, a sports medical and sports data valley, short-stay residential buildings for international students and athletes, and the training ground for FC Twente first team and women’s team.

The following months, the feasibility of the plans will be further developed together with the involved stakeholders.
