The City of Ostrava has announced that Spanish architectural company L35 Arquitectos has won the international design competition for the New Bazaly Stadium, marking a major step forward in the city’s and FC Baník Ostrava’s plans to return to their historic home.
The new stadium will replace the original Bazaly ground, which is currently used as the club’s training facilities. The project envisions a modern football-specific stadium with approximately 20,000 seats. The venue will be a boutique stadium with integrated training facilities and extensive usage on non-match days, serving the city of Ostrava year-round.
The design competition followed the Program of Requirements PoR) that was prepared by The Stadium Consultancy on behalf of the City of Ostrava and FC Baník Ostrava. The PoR outlines the concept of the stadium and serves as a key guiding document for the design of the stadium providing its intended uses and corresponding requirements. It ensures that the interests of key stakeholders such as the club, city and UEFA, were integrated into the design and that the design aligns with international stadium operations best practices.
As part of the design competition process, The Stadium Consultancy also served as an advisor to the jury panel that was tasked with elevating the proposals from leading international design studios, from which L35 Arquitectos was selected as the winning bidder. Its design stood out through its distinctive form, façade concept, choice of materials, while adhering to the design principles for a football stadium.
The Stadium Consultancy is proud to have contributed to this iconic project, which marks our vision for stadium development: international stadium operations requirements as the foundation for the further design development.
