AZ Alkmaar have contracted BAM for the new stadium roof
Dutch Premier League club AZ Alkmaar has come to an agreement with contractor BAM Bouw en Techniek for the construction works for the new roof on the AFAS Stadium. Preparations for the construction works have already started. The new roof was designed by a design team consisting of ZJA (architects), Royal HaskoningDHV (structural engineers) and IGG Bouweconomie (costs consultants) under the supervision of The Stadium Stadium Consultancy who act as project managers on behalf of the club.
The new roof will be 4 meters longer towards the pitch for all four sides, which will improve the comfort for the spectators during rainy matchdays. The current floodlights will be replaced by sustainable LED floodlighting in the edge of the roof. BAM joined forces with ASK Romein, specialised in complex steel structures. Activities will start soon and will take place during the first half of the 2020/2021 season. Due to temporary measures, it is still possible to host football matches in the stadium.
Robert Eenhoorn: ‘Step forward’
“This agreement means that the plans for the new roof will actually be realised”, is the reaction from Robert Eenhoorn, managing director of AZ Alkmaar. “As a club, we take the next step, despite the difficult times which we are in together. We will provide our fans a safe, comfortable and innovative stadium.”
Eric Moleman: ‘Ambitious’ “We can really start to work now”, says Eric Moleman, director of BAM Bouw en Techniek. “The preparations are in full swing and within a few weeks we will start with the foundation works. We are very proud we can use the knowledge and experience of BAM to build the new roof and to contribute to the realisation of the ambitions of AZ Alkmaar.”
