Kardinge is the largest multifunctional indoor sports center of the northern region in the Netherlands and located in the city of Groningen. In 2023 the indoor recreational swimming center, the 400m ice speed skating track and ice hockey arena will come to the end of its technical and economic lifetime. For its 30th anniversary, the city intends to redevelop the sports centre for the swimming and ice-skating facilities.
The Stadium Consultancy prepared the initial feasibility study, including various development options for this sports center and its surrounding areas. This was presented to the city council on 04 March 2020. After this session the city council approved to further elaborate the scenarios which are focusing on a modern sports experience combined with the recreational usage of the facility and the area where its located.
Sport050, the operational unit for sports facilities of the municipality of Groningen, has appointed The Stadium Consultancy as project manager to determine the strategy for the future of their flagship venue. The goal for this year is to determine the preferred scenario for this redevelopment which is compelling, sustainable and delivering a modern and future based sports environment.
