Future proofing Sports Centre Kardinge, Groningen

on 03/05/2019

The multifunctional sports indoor accommodation Kardinge opened its doors in 1993 as part of a newly developed sports and leisure area for the city of Groningen (>200,000 inhabitants). In 2023, this sports center, consisting of an indoor swimming center, 400m ice speed skating track, an ice hockey floor, a dojo, a sports hall (24 x 45m) and indoor and outdoor tennis and squash courts, will come to the end of its technical and economic lifetime.

Sport050, the operational unit for sports facilities of the municipality of Groningen, has appointed The Stadium Consultancy as project manager to determine the strategy for the future of their flagship. The Stadium Consultancy started in March 2019 on this new assignment and is responsible for preparing the initial feasibility study, including various development options for this sports center. Decision making should be ready by the end of this year.
