Adelaarshorst Stadium Remodeling and Expansion

The Stadium Consultancy are the project managers and appointed specialist consultants for the redevelopment of De Adelaarshorst, home of Dutch Premier League Club Go Ahead Eagles.

According to the masterplan prepared by Go Ahead Eagles investments must also be made at their home ground De Adelaarshorst (8,100 seated and standing places). Due to the low capacity, age and poor quality of their stadium, the club decided to modernise and to increase capacity in phases, whilst maintaining the unique character and ambience of this 90-year old ‘English-style’ stadium.

During the first phase in 2015 the main stand was modernised (including new players facilities and business lounges) and one of the kop stands was completely rebuild. Recently the main stand is expanded at each side with new business rooms and press facilities. This increased the total capacity of 10,000.

To future-proof existence, and continuously contribute to the social anchoring of Go Ahead Eagles for Deventer and the surrounding area, the design for the second phase was started in 2023. This includes the new construction of the other two stands: the ‘Brinkgreverweg tribune’ (better known as the B-side) and the ‘IJsseltribune’ (including a new away fan section). This will increase the total capacity of 13,000 and improvement of the public welfare facilities and the overall safety and security of the stadium.

At the end of 2023 Go Ahead Eagles submitted their design for the planning application procedures with the local authorities. After a thorough review and consultation process, the City has officially granted the permit. This marks another important step in making one of the most unique football stadiums in The Netherlands more modern, safer, and future proof.

The Stadium Consultancy is responsible for:

• The overall project management for the redevelopment of stadium De Adelaarshorst.
• Acting as Client representative, reporting directly to the board of the club;
• Delivery of the Employer’s Requirements;
• participating in all Design Team and Design & Build project team meetings on behalf of the club;
• Assisting the club, the design team and the Design & Build team with the development of stadium specific solutions in areas such as bowl design, accessibility, safety and security, public welfare facilities, etc.
