Royal BAM Group has started the construction works at the AFAS Stadium, home of Dutch Premier League club AZ Alkmaar. On 10 August 2019 the roof of the stadium partially collapsed and was fully demounted for safety reasons. Since then, AZ started with the design of a whole new roof structure, together with the expansion of the capacity and improvement of the fan experience of the stadium.

The design, prepared by the architects of ZJA and the structural engineering division of RoyalHaskoningDHV, consists of so called ‘cranes’ on three sides of the stadium. The main stand is spanned by a truss with its highest point of 40m above pitch level. The Stadium Consultancy is on behalf of AZ, the appointed specialist consultant and project manager for the planning and redevelopment of the AFAS Stadium.
