A.C. Perugia Calcio, commonly referred to as simply Perugia, is an Italian professional football club from Perugia, Umbria. The club was established in 1905 and celebrated their biggest successes with the runner-up position in 1978-79 Serie A season, in which they finished unbeaten, and winning the 2004 UEFA Intertoto Cup. The team currently plays in Serie B after promotion from Lega Pro Prima Divisione in 2013-14 season.
Perugia Calcio plays its home matches in the Stadio Renato Curi, which was built in 1974 with a 28,000-seat capacity. Considering that the stadium is more than 40 years old and with the clubs’ ambition to become a steady Serie B club, the club has prioritised the redevelopment of the stadium. The objective is to develop a 12,000-seat capacity football stadium, with the possibility to expand it to 16,000 seats in order to make it future-proof for promotion to Serie A.
The Stadium Consultancy supported the club by preparing a strategic pre-feasibility study. Based on the clubs’ ambition and requirements for the stadium, and an analysis of the current stadium structure and configuration, different stadium development scenarios have been identified. Each of these scenarios was assessed based on multiple high-level criteria such as income potential (based on a financial model), capacity, design flexibility and construction feasibility.
