Luminus Arena

KRC Genk is one of the top football teams in the topflight in Belgium, the Jupiler Pro-league. Genk have been national champions multiple times and regularly compete at an European level. Home of KRC Genk is the Luminus Arena, which is located just North of the city of Genk. The arena was officially opened in 1999 with a capacity of 20,000-seats. After multiple renovations the current capacity is about 23,700 seats.

Now that the stadium is more than 20 years old, the club wishes to modernise the stadium in order to improve the overall matchday experience for fans and sponsors, to increase matchday income and to improve the non-matchday exploitation of the stadium.

The Stadium Consultancy has been contracted by the Club to deliver a strategical pre-feasibility analysis on how to best reach the stadium’s full potential. To this end, we have analysed the current stadium and its facilities in detail, presented current trends and developments within the stadium industry to the club, defined different opportunities for improvement and provided a first indication of the financial impact. In close collaboration with the club, different options were selected to be most viable, based on which an overall redevelopment programme for the arena was established. The final feasibility report provided KRC Genk with a sound framework of the various redevelopment options, their financial impact and variability for further decision-making.
