THIALF SPEED SKATING OVAL

Thialf is the most popular speed skating stadium among skaters and spectators in the world. Every year, the ISU chooses Thialf as the location for major skating events. This is because the stadium has a great atmosphere for athletes, sponsors and spectators, and year after year Thialf is a guarantee for excellent organised speed skating events.

However, the 25-year-old roof-covered Thialf was at the end of its technical and economical lifetime and it was decided to renovate the arena. The existing arena was upgraded and modernised, new hospitality areas and exclusive training facilities were added to the building. Upon completion of the project Thialf is again World’s best speed skating stadium with the fastest low land ice-track and extensive ecological sustainability requirements.

As specialist consultant to the Client, The Stadium Consultancy was responsible for:

• preparation of the business model of the arena;
• preparing the programme of requirements;
• tender evaluations;
• participating in the D&B team on behalf of the client;
• reviews and compliance checks;
